Introduction
Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?
James 2:15-17
To demonstrate Gods love to those in need by meeting their physical and spiritual needs.
Why should we minister in this way?
It is clearly in God’s will that we minister to those in need. In fact, how we minister to others demonstrates our love for God. We will be judged on this when we stand before Christ. God promises great blessing in this life and the life to come to those minister to those in need.
Ministry begins at the house of God. Jesus specifically states that when we minister to the least of these “my brethren”, or fellow believers, we are ministering unto him. It also implies that when we don’t minister to Christians then our relationship with God suffers.
Our ministry to others impacts the quality of our worship and our relationship with God. In fact, ministering to others is a vital part of our worship that we sometimes ignore. When God says, “Is not this the fast I have chosen” it shows that he wants more from us than mere religious rituals. Our faith must be active. Faith without works is dead.
