Why are we fasting? In Mark 9:17-29 (KJV), The disciples had met a difficult challenge. Though empowered by God, and successful in the past, for some reason they were not able to cast a demon that had possessed a young child, rendering him deaf and dumb. Jesus intervened and chastised the generation for their lack of faith in v19. In verse 23, he told the father, "all things are possible to him that believeth" to which the father replied "Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief". Immediately Jesus rebuked the spirit (v 25), saying "Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him". Afterwards, the disciples asked him privately, "Why could not we cast him out?" to which Jesus replied in v. 29. "This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting."

Are you facing some difficult situations in your life? Spiritual, personal, or financial challenges? Do you need deliverance from spiritual strongholds? All Christians should fast as a normal discipline, but we want to come together in a corporate fast to seek God for breakthroughs in those difficult areas of our lives that we have not yet broken through.
